Ex- Chairman Marvel Studios, David Maisel has been appointed as special adviser to Rovio, the company behind the immensely popular game “Angry Birds” [Variety]. Check out the details after the jump.
Maisel was involved in creation of Marvel Studios and the company’s sale to Disney. His hiring here is seen as a key step into getting the planned “Angry Birds” film version headed into production as well as converting the company into a major animated film producer.
Maisel has already started on dialogues with screenwriters and directors to undertake the “Angry Birds” feature, and will serve as executive producer on the films. He said, “There has been so much chatter about an ‘Angry Birds’ movie, but it’s now real. The process is starting now”.
In the game, players use a slingshot to help a group of animated birds wipe out a group of wicked pigs who stole their eggs. Over 250 million downloads of the game have taken place since its launch in late 2009.
The company will also use its games to grab the public attention towards the film when they are going to release the film, and no doubt the movie will be a great success for the company.
