At last after two years of development Google is going to launch its first ever Google Chrome OS notebooks on June 15, 2011, with the collaboration of Samsung and Acer. Read more for further details.
Let’s talk about some of the features and details about the notebooks that are going to be launched by Google on the Samsung and Acer platform.
Samsung-Google-Notebook:
- 12.1-inch screen
- 8-hour battery life
- $429 for the Wi-Fi version
- $499 for the 3G version
Acer-Google-Notebook:
- 11.6-inch display screen
- 6.5-hour battery life.
- Starts from $349 and higher
Google SVP of Chrome Sundar Pichai said in Wednesday’s keynote at the Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco that these Chrome OS notebooks will be available from June 15. The launching place in US will be Amazon.com and in Best Buy stores nationwide, however the United Kingdom, France and other countries will also get the chance to buy Chrome OS notebooks at the same time.
Google is now testing the Chrome OS and fixing the bugs and made it compatible with Intel’s dual-core processors.
Google tried to create a cloud-based operating system in the form of Chrome OS. Not like the conventional desktop operating systems such as Windows and Mac OS X, Chrome OS just runs web-based applications through a customized version of the Chrome browser. So that’s why Chrome OS got high speed and less power consumption.
The Chrome OS is basically designed for netbooks only nut keeping the popularity of tablets in mind the developers are making the OS compatible for such devices too.
